Peachtree Corners has partnered with May Mobility and T-Mobile to introduce autonomous vehicle (AV) technology, marking May Mobility’s first deployment in Georgia. This initiative aims to enhance transportation options using AVs powered by T-Mobile’s 5G network, benefiting both residents and visitors. May Mobility’s vehicles will operate along Technology Parkway, offering on-demand services through an app. The partnership aligns with Peachtree Corners’ ongoing efforts to integrate innovative transportation solutions and establish itself as a hub for cutting-edge technologies.
Key Highlights:
- Partnership Launch: Peachtree Corners collaborates with May Mobility to introduce autonomous vehicles in Georgia.
- 5G-Powered Innovation: T-Mobile’s 5G network supports the AV operations, ensuring real-time connectivity and smooth performance.
- Service Availability: The autonomous service will operate Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM, covering eight stops along Technology Parkway.
- On-Demand Access: Riders can book trips via the May Mobility app, with plans for a fully autonomous service in the near future.
- Advanced Technology: May Mobility’s patented Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) system enhances vehicle safety and decision-making in unpredictable scenarios.
- Expanded Future Plans: The service aims to gradually expand, connecting more areas, including Peachtree Corners’ Town Center.
Starting this week, visitors of Peachtree Corners can experience the autonomous Toyota Sienna Autono-MaaS, which operates on a designated route featuring popular destinations such as the Innovation Center, restaurants, hotels, and Peachtree Corners’ City Hall. Initially available to the public on the week of October 7, this deployment represents a significant milestone for both Peachtree Corners and May Mobility in advancing smart city solutions.
The introduction of these autonomous vehicles aligns with Peachtree Corners’ broader mission of being a leader in smart city infrastructure. Brian Johnson, City Manager of Peachtree Corners, expressed the city’s enthusiasm, stating, “We are excited to continue these efforts by welcoming May Mobility to Peachtree Corners and the state of Georgia.”
May Mobility’s AVs are equipped with the MPDM system, designed to manage real-time decision-making in complex environments. This technology allows the vehicles to analyze thousands of scenarios every second and select the safest course of action. In partnership with T-Mobile, the AV system benefits from 5G connectivity, providing fast, low-latency data transmission for optimized vehicle performance and enhanced passenger experience.
According to Manik Dhar, Chief Commercial Officer of May Mobility, “This deployment allows us to showcase how MPDM operates both inside and outside of Curiosity Lab’s autonomous vehicle test lanes, while also benefiting from T-Mobile’s 5G.”
The partnership between Peachtree Corners, May Mobility, and T-Mobile highlights the growing role of autonomous vehicles and 5G technology in shaping the future of urban transportation. Peachtree Corners continues to lead by example as a model for integrating smart technologies to improve the quality of life for its residents and the broader community.
