The Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC) will launch the Grand Prix of Monterey with a thrilling autonomous race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on July 24, 2025. This event, featuring the world’s fastest AI-piloted racecars, marks a historic moment as university teams from across the globe compete in a time trial on the iconic track, setting the stage for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES weekend. The race highlights cutting-edge AI technology navigating the challenging Laguna Seca circuit, including the renowned Corkscrew turn.
Key Highlights:
- Event Date: Autonomous race on July 24, 2025, at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
- Participants: Eight university teams from North America, Europe, and Asia competing with AI drivers.
- AI Summit: Invitation-only AI & Automation Summit held on race day morning.
- Track Challenge: Second road course race for IAC, tackling Laguna Seca’s technical layout.
- Innovation Focus: Showcases advancements in AI, robotics, and autonomous mobility.
The race features eight university teams, including AI Racing Tech (UC Berkeley, University of Hawai’i, others), Autonomous Tiger Racing (Auburn University), and KAIST (South Korea), among others. These teams have developed AI software to pilot the IAC AV-24 racecar, pushing the boundaries of autonomous technology. Two additional teams, TUM Autonomous Motorsport (Germany) and UNIMORE Racing (Italy), will compete at the Monza F1 circuit during the Milan Monza Motor Show in June 2025.
In addition to the race, the AI & Automation Summit will bring together industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers to discuss AI’s future in autonomous mobility. Held on-site, this summit will spotlight Silicon Valley’s role in advancing robotics and AI, fostering innovation in safety and performance for autonomous vehicles.
