Aeva announced that a major European automaker has selected its 4D LiDAR technology for an automated vehicle validation program. Aeva’s Aeries II sensors will serve as the “gold standard” for validating next-generation vehicle automation systems. This collaboration involves a leading simulation and validation technology provider, further highlighting Aeva’s role in the automotive industry’s shift towards FMCW-based sensing.
Key Highlights:
- Aeva’s 4D LiDAR technology to be used by a major European automaker for automated vehicle development.
- Aeries II sensors will provide ground truth data for validating next-generation automation systems.
- Partnership includes a simulation and validation technology leader.
- Aeva’s FMCW technology helps separate static and dynamic objects for improved automation.
Aeva’s Aeries II sensors will be integrated into the automaker’s automated vehicle program, collecting precise data to benchmark various systems, including perception, decision-making, and control systems. By leveraging Aeva’s instant velocity channel, point cloud data is effectively separated into static and dynamic scenes, allowing for more accurate identification of road boundaries, lane markings, road signs, and moving objects like pedestrians and motorcyclists.
Aeva’s FMCW technology has attracted significant interest from automakers due to its unique ability to provide instant velocity data, enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of sensing in automated vehicles. James Byun, Managing Director of Business Development at Aeva, emphasized the growing interest in Aeva’s technology: “As automation advances across consumer vehicle manufacturers, we are seeing increased interest in next-generation sensor technology like Aeva 4D LiDAR due to its ability to natively provide an additional dimension of instant velocity data that is missing in conventional LiDAR sensors.”
Aeva Technologies aims to revolutionize perception systems for diverse applications, ranging from automated driving to industrial robotics and consumer electronics. By integrating key LiDAR components into a compact module, Aeva’s 4D LiDAR sensors offer both 3D position and instant velocity detection, providing enhanced capabilities for autonomous devices.
